What does this post have to do with real estate? Nothing – however – an email came in this morning from our accountants – about the ongoing spam email that seems to be coming from the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and we thought it be worthy enough for a blog post since we can never be too careful these days about these internet spams.
Our accountants confirm that currently (and the foreseeable future) CRA only refunds amounts via Cheque or direct deposit so any emails offering a refund via transfer is Spam
Typically the screen looks like this:
Subject: INTERAC e-Transfer from Canada Revenue Agency System
Dear TaxPayer,
Canada Revenue Agency has sent you an INTERAC e-Transfer (previously INTERAC Email Money Transfer)
Amount: $745.37 (CAD) Sender’s Message: A message was not provided Expiry Date: 29 September 2014
Action Required: To deposit your money, click here: http:/www.secure-interact.cra-arc.gc.ca/interac/gov/confirm
